Thanks to the 1st: English Thanksgiving

I'm glad to welcome with us today the wonderful talented paranormal romance writer H.P. Mallory!

English Thanksgiving

I would have to say Fall is one of my most favorite times of the year. I just love the hint of winter in the crispness of the air and the changing colors of the leaves. Granted, in California our seasonal patterns aren’t quite as dramatic as they are on the East Coast, but we still have the occasional deciduous tree that decides to delight us with a display of orange and red leaves before the ghosts of Winter steal its leaves completely.

The last few months of the year are my favorites—bringing the ghouls and goblins of Halloween followed by the gluttonous smorgasbord of Thanksgiving and ending in the arrival of one very fat man with a long beard who brings you whatever you’ve been eyeing all year. Ever since I was a child, these holidays held a definite sense of magic. I’ve always loved Halloween and I think of Thanksgiving as more of a transcendence between the macabre splendor of Halloween and the beauty of the Christmas season.

One of the best Thanksgivings I’ve ever spent was, interestingly enough, away from my family. That isn’t to say I don’t enjoy family Thanksgivings—I absolutely adore them but this particular Thanksgiving of two years ago was magical in its own right. My husband and I were living in Edinburgh, Scotland because my hubby was attending the University of Edinburgh to obtain his MBA. As is well known, the British don’t celebrate Thanksgiving so we took it upon ourselves to create our own celebration, inviting all the Canadian and American students to our home. I was hugely pregnant at the time so everyone helped by bringing a dish and assisting with the cooking. The turkey was what is called a bronze turkey, raised only on clover and to this day, I have never tasted a better turkey. The beauty of this Thanksgiving was that even though we were all away from our loved ones and missing our families, we managed to celebrate the season together in a country foreign to all of us.

And now, after two years we’ve lost touch with many of the students who came to celebrate with us but that Thanksgiving will always remain among my favorites as it was a feast to honor new friendships and new adventures.

About H.P.: (from urbanfantasynovels.com)
I started seriously writing about two years ago when I was living in Cambridge, England. Living in the U.K. really fueled my writing flame because the history is so intense, you can't help but feel like you're in a magical place.

The first book I started in Cambridge was Fire Burn and Cauldron BubbleThen I moved up to Edinburgh, Scotland and started working on my second book, To Kill A Warlock. Some of the places I visited really had a profound effect on me and I included those locations in my books.

Now I'm back in the U.S. and trying to find time to write whenever I can.
Between working in online marketing all day and raising a baby, time is scarce. (That's my disclaimer to all of you who are wanting the next books in the series like tomorrow! LOL) But, seriously, I am aiming to release a book in each of the series every six months--that's not so bad, right? Oh, and I should mention that if you are interested in being added to my distro list for upcoming books, just shoot me an email.

My interests are varied but aside from writing, I'm most excited about traveling. Uncovering new places and learning about different cultures is pretty incredible. I feel extremely fortunate to have been able to live abroad--what an amazing experience!
