Always the Baker... by Sandra Bricker (Review)

Always the Baker Never the Bride by Sandra D. Bricker
Age Warning: 15+ (It's not really an adult book...)
Published By:
Abingdon Press

Genre: Adult Romance
Date Released: September 1, 2010
Provided By: Netgalley.com

Synopsis:
Thirty-six-year-old Emma Rae Travis has been baking specialty cakes and melt-in-your-mouth pastries at The Backstreet Bakery in historic Roswell, just outside of Atlanta, for the last six years. But here’s the rub about her job as a baker … Emma is diabetic. When she tastes her creations, it can only be in the most minute portions. Emma is considered an artisan for the stunning crème brulee wedding cake that won her the Passionate Palette Award last year, but she’s never even had one full slice of it.  When Jackson Drake hears about this local baker who has won a prestigious award for her wedding cake artistry, he tells his assistant to be sure and include her in the pastry tastings scheduled at his new wedding destination hotel the following week. And for Jackson, that particular day has started out badly with two workmen trapped in a broken elevator and a delivery of several dozen 300-thread-count bed linens in the wrong size abandoned in the lobby. But when the arrogant baker he met a week prior in Roswell stumbles into the dining room with a platter of pastries and a bucketful of orders, he knows for certain: It’s going to be a really rotten day. Can these two ill-suited players master the high-wire act and make a go of their new business venture? Or will they take each other crashing downward, without a net? And will the surprise wedding at The Tanglewood be theirs?
My Review:
Always the Baker Never the Bride, is a wonderful witty romance that is really easy to read, because you want to finish it! Taking place in current day Georgia, you see the old southern charm and beauty queens pop out in this baker proportioned novel.

Award winning baker, Emma Travis is different than other bakers. She's diabetic, and when your a diabetic you need to limit your sugar intake. Making it rough for Emma to eat her own award winning wedding cakes! But another problem is her boss, and when Emma's offered the head baking position at the new wedding destination hotel she can't resist. And not only the position but her new boss as well doesn't make the job so bad. But will her boss, Jackson's sisters cause havoc at the coming out party for the new wedding resort? Or will something else happen. Maybe their's love in Emma's baking after all.

This novel is witty, funny and hilarious; Jackson's sisters just add to the hilarity because of their constant nit picking. And in the end Always the Baker Never the Bride by Sandra Bricker is a great romance read (and even thought they say it's adult there's really nothing adultish in the book yah theres kissing and thats about it). The cover is also extremely cute, but against some other wedding involved novels is the same old thing. But I still love the cover! So if  you want a cuter romance book for a quick pickup I suggest Always the Baker Never the Bride.

About the Author:
For more than a decade, Sandra D. Bricker lived in Los Angeles. While honing her chosen craft of screenwriting in every spare moment, she worked as a personal assistant and publicist to some of daytime television's hottest stars. When her mother became ill in Florida, she walked away from that segment of her life and moved across the country to take on a new role: Caregiver.

One of Sandie's passions revolves around the rights of animals. She's been involved in fundraising for Lost Angels Animal Rescue for several years now; in fact, a portion of the proceeds of Love Finds You in Holiday, Floridawill go to help the non-profit group with their expenses. And Lost Angels paid her back in a big way: After the loss of her 15-year companion, Caleb, they brought a free-spirited Collie named Sophie into her life.

Pack of Lies by Vanessa Vaughn (Review)

Pack of Lies by Vanessa Vaughn
Pack of LiesAge Warning:  It's a very mature book, at least 17 and up.
Published By: Ravenous Romance
Genre: Erotic Romance
Date Released: E-Book June 2010, Paperback August 2010
Provided By: Author

Synopsis:
When Jack is attacked by a powerful werewolf one moonlit night, his world is forever changed.  Marcus is that wolf, the strong leader of his pack, who never imagined a mere mortal could ever escape him, much less ever become one of his kind. And yet, as time passes, he can't deny the handsome human is slowly beginning to change.  No longer the civilized architect he used to be, Jack feels a new power coalescing inside of him. He barely even recognizes himself as he becomes more sexual, more impulsive, more wild in every way.  But as the bite transforms him, it also binds he and his attacker together forever. The two share a powerful unbreakable link, no matter how forcefully they may each try to deny it.  Marcus is already hiding secrets from the other wolves, and his position as Alpha is threatened. Could Jack be the new ally Marcus needs to set things right, or will their desire for one another draw them away from all they know and alter the course of their lives forever?
My Review:
So as a reader I have recently started to read some more adult books. And Pack of Lies turned out to be my first M/M book. It was interesting, and I liked the plot line behind Vanessa's book. Werewolves are the main characters in this book and you get a different view from two different sides Marcus and Jack.

Jack is a architect and a good one, but the fact is one night while out partying he hits something on his way home, and gets bit. This starts to unravel the story behind Pack of Lies. But the story doesn't just take place from Jack's point of view but also Marcus', the alpha leader of the local werewolf pack. Which gives a better spin, especially since Marcus' position is in danger of being taken away from him if his secret is reviled.

Pack of Lies is an M/M book filled with romance, werewolves, suspense and battle. The book has it's moments, and in the end held my attention. It was hard to get into at the beginning but it was easier to read once you got started. It's also a cliff hanger and I believe there is going to be another book in the series since Vanessa's Bio, states series in it, but i'm not sure.

Alinora, Jason & Me, and Black Silk (Adult Reviews)

Alinora by Kara Lockley
Age Warning: I would say age 13 or 14 and up should read Alinora
Published By: Self-Published
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Date Released: September 7, 2009
Provided By: Free E-books on barnesandnoble.com

Synopsis:
Lily had almost everything she ever wanted. Good friends, a nice house, a thriving career. The only thing missing was love. Until she started dreaming of a carefree romance every night. Her dreams were so vivid they made her doubt her sanity. Was too much time at the office forcing her stressed-out mind to create a retreat at night? Or were her dreams somehow... real?
My Review:
Alinora is a short story full of romance and fantasy. Lily the main character is a workaholic and once she moves into her new house built in the middle of the woods, she starts dreaming. These dreams are vivid, real, and Caleb the man of her dreams, literally, induces her carefree romance that every time she dreams occurs. But problems start as her retreat becomes literal in the real world. And from there Caleb and Lily's romance becomes complicated. Alinora is a great short romance to read, I love the ending and the whole content of the story. Kara does a nice job in the 48 pages and 16 chapters that are written and unlike other short stories builds her characters so that you want more.

Jason & Me by Jenna Anderson
Age Warning: I would say age 14 and up
Published By: Self-Published
Genre: Friendship Romance
Date Released: November 26, 2009
Provided By: Free E-books on barnesandnoble.com (But it's no longer free $0.99)

Synopsis:
Jason’s been my best friend for fourteen years. I never thought I’d kiss him. I never thought he’d leave me. Apparently that hot afternoon was my lucky day, I experienced both.
My Review:
Jason & Me is a short short story, 15 pages. But you get the content quick and fast. It's an emotional friendship romance, and it's really cute in my mine. Jason at first seems like a butt face, and Meg is just the best friend that's in love with Jason.  And if you want a short cute romance you can read this and get it quick. That's about it, Meg and Jason as characters are built up alright, but need a little more characteristics for my taste.

Black Silk by Jan Gordan
Age Warning: I would say age 16 or 17 and up
Published By: Self-Published
Genre: Paranormal Romance
Date Released: July 16, 2009

Synopsis:
Victoria Hudson is 29 and lives in the kind of small town where everyone knows everyone else. She has two great loves in her life -- her cat, Mister, and reading books from her used bookstore. She doesn't see her life changing much in the future. She's stuck. Until one night when she's saved from probable danger by a mysterious stranger.

Steven Colburn has moved around quite a bit during his lifetime, never really finding a place where he felt he could be
comfortable. Until he buys an old homestead, and fate steps in to forever change his life and that of one of the town’s quiet entrepreneurs.
My Review:
Alright Black Silk is a very detailed romance book. I love the characters, and both of them are excellently written. And unlike the other two books reviewed above Black Silk is 125 pages. It's also really original, and  I don't think there's any other books like it out there. Victoria or Vic runs a book store and hasn't be able to find love till now. Steven is the new mysterious guy in town, he's different and after saving Vic at a gas station robbery, starts to know her. You can guess the ending, but not all of this goes the way it's supposed to. But in the end Black Silk is a great paranormal romance with an awesome new paranormal twist.
