The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins (Review)

SYNOPSIS:
(From bn.com)
Sixteen-year-old Katniss is smart, athletic, and fast. She can take down a rabbit with a bow and arrow, hitting it straight through the eye. Will these skills be enough to survive the Hunger Games? Suzanne Collins, the author of the middle-grade fantasy series The Underland Chronicles begins anew, exploring a future landscape that will be familiar to devotees of science fiction's dystopic strain. In a nation called Panem, which occupies the landmass that is the present United States, a parasitical fascist Capitol dominates 12 conquered districts. There was a thirteenth district but it was obliterated during a rebellion. The totalitarian government keeps the subjected populations in line by threatened devastation, starvation, and brutality.
The Hunger Games (Hunger Games Series #1) by Suzanne Collins: Book CoverMY REVIEW:
Okay, I have no clue why I had not picked up this book when it first came out. I loved it, utterly and totally. I mean I was reading it every moment I could between everything. But I'm going to keep this short, because most of you have read this book. Katniss was so brave. Doing everything she did, even to save her sister Prim from The Hunger Games. I adored her self pride, and ability to care for her depressed mother. Peeta I liked a lot to, he was the other main character, and I really enjoyed reading about him. He was brave, out of his element, and I believe he truly cared for Katniss. Other than that I have started to dig into the second book Catching Fire and am addicted already!

Oh wait one more thing if I had to recommended a book like this one it would be Graceling by Kirsten Cashore. Katsa and Katniss remind me so much of each other and the fact their names are almost the same just made it kind of funny, because at times I was calling Katniss, Katsa.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:
(From SuzanneCollinsBooks.com)

Since 1991, Suzanne Collins has been busy writing for children’s television. She has worked on the staffs of several Nickelodeon shows, including the Emmy-nominated hit Clarissa Explains it All and The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo. For preschool viewers, she penned multiple stories for the Emmy-nominated Little Bear and Oswald. She also co-wrote the critically acclaimed Rankin/Bass Christmas special, Santa, Baby! Most recently she was the Head Writer for Scholastic Entertainment’sClifford’s Puppy Days.

While working on a Kids WB show called Generation O! she met children’s author James Proimos, who talked her into giving children’s books a try.

Thinking one day about Alice in Wonderland, she was struck by how pastoral the setting must seem to kids who, like her own, lived in urban surroundings. In New York City, you’re much more likely to fall down a manhole than a rabbit hole and, if you do, you’re not going to find a tea party. What you might find...? Well, that’s the story of Gregor the Overlander, the first book in her five-part fantasy/war series, The Underland Chronicles.

At present, Suzanne is hard at work on the third book in her sci-fi series, The Hunger Games.

She currently lives in Connecticut with her family and a pair of feral kittens they adopted from their backyard.

Mockingjay.net also has a cool version of Rue's Lullaby that Katniss sings here.

Other than that I guess its time to decided what side I am on. Right now I'm on the skirts. Because of the fact I don't really know much about Gale at this point, and the fact that Peeta was in the book more than him. I like Peeta I think he genuinely cares about Katniss (which we know), and is just undermined by the whole Hunger Games issue. So I'm going to say I'm team Peeta, right now this might change it depends on what happens in Catching Fire.

**Just so everyone knows I most likely have finished Catching Fire when this is posted due to the fact I line up a book review a week, and Fade Out is lined up to be posted before this one.**

Great review =) I read The Hunger Games last year and I really loved it. Finished Catching Fire this week but didn't find it to be as good as THG, not that I thought it was bad.

Thanks. I liked Catching Fire, but didn't love it. I'm wondering what is going to happen in Mockingjay.

Hey there, just dropping by on the hop and have become a new follower.

I too loved this book, and was proud of Katniss and her loyalty to her loved ones. I'm looking forward to reading Catching Fire, which I picked up for 3 dollars at a used book sale this week!

You can visit my blog here if you're interested.

Happy Reading!
